South Hill the Sacred Mountain One of the many places of Prayer in Upstate NY.
Sacred History
Imagine if you could go back in time a 1,000, 2,000 or even 3,000 years or more to when the mound builders inhabited much of the Eastern United States. Imagine if you could visit one of their sacred sites and feel the charged atmosphere of their spiritual practices as you sat next to one of their mounds. Can you feel the chills running up and down your spine as you cry for a vision and tap into the collective consciousness of the thousands that have been sitting where you do now for centuries before you. Feel their thoughts as they help elevate your consciousness, bring you closer to the Great Spirit, open up lines of communication to other worlds, and give you visions all the while healing you. South Hill at the southern end of Canandaigua Lake in the Finger Lakes district of New York State, part of the High Tor Fish and Wildlife Management Area is such a place. Hundreds of stone and earthen mounds and other stone structures are found on it. These structures were strategically placed to tap into Mother Earth to enhance the spiritual experience. The thoughts of the many that have prayed, done ceremony, vision quested and performed other spiritual exercises there still lingers in the area. The ether is a thick mixture of those thoughts and the essences of Mother Earth which are enhanced by stone structures. The mound builders, the Hopewell and Adena, were not the only ones to hold South Hill in reverence. According to Iroquois legend, it is at Nundawao (South Hill), that the earth divided and the Seneca people emerged. There is also evidence that other cultures before the mound builders created stone structures on South Hill. In other words, South Hill has a long history of being a sacred place and the area is covered with thoughts of the pilgrims that came there. Stone Mounds It is difficult to prove conclusively that the stone mounds on South Hill were constructed by the Hopewell and/or Adena. Local historian and amateur archaeologist, David Robinson, is one of the few sources available. He notes that the NY state dept of Archeology determined that the stone mounds, in what we call the Ledges area, were not created by farmers clearing stones. Relying on the work of NY State Historians Parker and Ritchie, Robinson posits that the mounds were created by the Hopewell and/or Adena. In another article he refers to an aerial photograph taken in 1954 of the same area of South Hill showing a large earthen mound or ring that was deteriorating but would have been one half mile in diameter if in intact. Whoever created the stone mounds had knowledge of Mother Earth’s cosmology. I believe that all is Brahman (God), has consciousness and that we have similar make-ups. That means that Mother Earth, like us, has a subtle body. Just as mystics work with various parts of the human subtle body, such as the chakras, to increase one’s spiritual experience and development, so did the people that created the stone mounds apply those same concepts to Mother Earth’s subtle body. How and where these stone structures were placed demonstrates that their creators had knowledge of Mother Earth’s cosmology and indicates that the mounds were not created haphazardly. I have not seen such knowledge displayed by any culture in our modern world. Purpose and function The other question is what were the stone structures used for. Were they ceremonial sites, burial sites or places where sacrifice may have taken place. I believe that they were used for spiritual purposes. The formation of energy vortices (vortices of cosmic prana, what I call natural vortices) around the stone mounds indicates this, because such vortices form only from the practice of spiritual activities. See my Energy Vortexes--Cosmic Prana that explains how and why such vortices form or read Energy Vortices ; another video Using Energy Vortex Formation to Verify Sacred Sites shot at South Hill explaining why such vortices are a good gauge to verify whether a site had been used for spiritual purposes. This is not to say that the mounds were not used for other purposes and that not everyone that came there did so with the best of intentions. A lot of time has also passed since South Hill was held in reverence and used by pilgrims; in fact, hunting, the main activity currently pursued there has detrimental affects on an area. Specific Designs The design of a stone structure was made to match with a specific aspect of Mother Earth—earth chakras, spirit lines (ley lines), etc. Because of their age the condition of the stone structures varies, from good to indistinguishable. Also not all of the structures are intricate and elaborate.
Circular or square stone platform with indented center- The most frequently found stone mound is a circular platform about 2 feet high made of stones with a hollow, or indented center. The circle is generally not exact, so it can appear to be an oblong, or an imperfect square. On the left hand side you can see a black dog(Lucy) sitting in the indented center of a stone mound covering a series of earth chakras. These structures are consistently found placed on earth chakras. I call them earth chakras because they pull in prana/energy/chi (earth prana) from the ether and distribute it into the earth, providing nourishment (energy) to the soil and the trees and plants. I call it earth prana because it is the only prana (energy/chi) that circulates both in the ether and earth. It is a coarser lower vibrating prana that deals with the physical world. An earth chakra, similar to a human chakra, consists of a vortex that pulls in earth prana from the ether and funnels it into two energy lines in the earth that are perpendicular, or at 90 degrees to each other. The energy lines carry the prana into a duct some distance away where it is released back into the ether. The process is one of constant motion, similar to the operation of a home heating system with a furnace that has ducts release the hot air into a room and the cold air ducts at the other end of the room suck in the cooler air. See my Circulation of Prana. The stone mounds are generally located on a series of several earth chakras. Circular (Ceremonial) Platform—We have found several circular platforms about a foot to two feet high placed upon Spirit Lines, Lines of Consciousness or what many call Ley lines. Spirit Lines carry consciousness and emanate from Mother Earth’s soul in upstate NY (See Gaia’s Soul) What distinguishes the circular platform from the one covering earth chakras is that there is no indentation, the platforms are almost perfect circles and they are placed on Spirit Lines.
Three Tiered Elongated (Rectangular) Structure- The rectangle mound consists of three terraces made of stone about 30-40 feet or more in total length. The first terrace is about two high, the middle terrace one to two feet higher and the final terrace is another one to two feet higher. The terraces are fairly flat. The bottom or lowest terrace is placed upon another receptacle or attractor of prana, only this one absorbs a variety of pranas. The picture on the right shows the three tiered stone structure from the lowest tier. The black dog (Lucy)) is sitting next to where the second elevated tier begins. In the distance you can see a white dog (Pepper) sitting in the center of the final and highest tier. Flat Stones, smaller mounds, megaliths/Manitou’s, earth mound, other—There is an abundance of other structures found on South hill that are aligned with a variety of features of Mother Earth, probably created by a variety of cultures. |
