Upper Clark’s Gully—South Hill One of the many places of Prayer in Upstate NY.
To access South Hill I would suggest taking the trail at the West Road DEC parking lot. It is not more than 10-20 feet east of the intersection of Sunnyside and West roads. On your right as you face South Hill you will see an old dirt road that climbs quickly. Take it. Sacred Sites
Ceremonial Stone—Less than a 100 yards up the trail you will begin turning left and the ground will begin to flatten out. On your left (west) you will see a large stone, circled by smaller stones that is pictured on the right. The large stone is the original sacred stone marking the intersection of 2 Spirit Lines and 4 energy lines. There is another spirit line and energy line in the circle that I have re-constructed with stones to replica what was there before.
Sacred Circle—Continue walking off the trail due west for another 50 feet you will come upon a stand of large trees (mostly maple). You will see one large maple tree pictured at right. Directly in front of the tree is a stacked (3/4) field of consciousness. If you look closely the trees appear to be aligned in a circle. Dowsers will tell you that trees often belie what is going on with a space. In the center of the trees is a fairly large ceremonial circle that I have marked out with stones. I believe that this circle and others in this area were created by a fourth civilization that came after the Spirit Keepers and possibly had a sense/feel for fields of consciousness. Although, quite honestly I am not sure. Spend some time in prayer and meditation in the circle. It has a great feel to it.
Large Circle--Continuing up on the dirt road just before the grade increases steeply and turns right you will find a very large circle containging some large stones on your right. The three large stones 2-3 feet in height in the circle are the orginal stones (pictured on the right). We reconstructed the circle following the energy lines left as spiritual footprints from those that prayed there. The circle sits on a stacked (5) field of consciousness. Five fields upon each other is very powerful: While the geographic samskaras was very positive there was also a very negative component indicating bad stuff had transpired over time. The very positive overall reading is a testament to those that created it and prayed there; as well as the fact that such stacked fields are very powerful. Some meditation and spiritual elbow grease will go a long way to helping clean it up, which I will begin doing. The large ridge area contains several other circles we have etched out. It also contains numerous campfires; a testament to its draw. Unfortunately a lot of hunting and other things have gone on here. Still very positive. This area could be part of the stones David Robinson refers to in Who Built the "Old Fort" on Bare Hill quoting Native American historian A. C. Parker and NY State Historian William Ritchie associated with the Adena culture. To see more pictures of the places mentioned go to:Clarks Gully blog. More To Be Revealed It is apparent that there is a lot more to Clarks Gully. My experience is that it takes time to know a place and that bits and pieces are revealed over time. We found no distinct identity to the place. This may have to do with the smorgasboard of civilizations that have prayed at Clarks Gully and the spiritual neglect of several hundred years. The very strongly positive geographic samskara surrounding the stones is a testament to what went on there before. There is a very strong foundation of spirituality that we can build upon. Your help needed I would appreciate information on other stone formations in the High Tor area. I ask that anyone that knows more about stone in long houses please contact me as well. I would also appreciate input from other dowsers regarding the long house, dowsing circles and spirit keepers stones. I got several different counts regarding the number of stone circles. Finding Clarks Gully To get to Clarks Gully take Route 364 south from Canandaigua. At Middlesex you will turn right onto Route 245 going south, take a right on to Sunnyside, about 4.5 miles down 245. Just before you cross West End Avenue you will see a Hi Tor parking area—park there. You can continue for another 100 yards and cross West Avenue and park at the three un-marked parking areas just after West Avenue. You should be aware that the driveway-like parking areas are on private property. Clarks Gully is accessed near the intersection of Sunnyside Rd and West Ave in the town of Naples. You may wish to read a New York Times' article on Bare Hill and nearby Clark’s Gully Canandaigua Lake, N.Y.: Of Indian Legends and Sylvan Trails. I would suggest a visit to Bare Hill up the road less than ten miles away. Peace, |
